Initial Consultation

At your initial consultation, your Doula will answer questions, learn about you, explore your wants and desires for your birth experience, introduce and go over your birth plan and options, get your doctor information and give you information on local birthing centers and hospitals.  This is also when you will sign your service agreement and get details on how to use your Doula throughout your pregnancy, during labour and delivery, and in the postpartum period.

Prenatal and Postnatal Visits

The time during your pregnancy before labour as well as after you have delivered your baby is very important.  You will have lots of questions, your body will go through lots of changes, and your Doula will be there every step of the way.  Your Doula will schedule a special time just for you to check up on your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Phone Support

Phone support is provided by your Doula between the hours of 9:00am and 9:00pm during the months before labour begins.  You are encouraged to call your Doula with any questions or concerns you might have.  Beginning two (2) weeks before your estimated due date, your Doula will be on call for you 24 hours a day, carrying a phone on person at all times, available for calls or texts.  Because of this, your Doula will not have out-of-town travel scheduled during this time unless an emergency occurs.

Labour and Delivery

Your Doula will provide early labour support as requested including in-home assistance.  Once active labour has begun until one hour (at minimum) after your baby is born, your Doula will remain by your side.  Your Doula will provide emotional support and physical comfort during the labour process through reassurance and perspective, suggestions to help labour progress, relaxation aids such as massage and positioning, and other non-medical support techniques for comfort while always striving to maintain a calm and peaceful birth environment.  Your Doula will also communicate with the medical staff to make sure you have the information you need to make informed decisions during labour.

After Care

Your Doula will be available to provide information and emotional support regarding postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn assistance.  If you choose, your Doula can assist in initiating the breastfeeding process.
